CONNECTING TO NATURE
EXERCISING TOGETHER
RED LIGHT THERAPY
Red light is so good for so many reasons! It's actually been around for several years but it's just now that we are all taking about its benefits |
Time light exposure of specific wavelenghts can be used to improve sleep, modulate hormone levels, improve mode, help with certain skin problems and much more.
Red Light light therapy can be used to improve in so many areas in our lives and to do it is simply beneficial.
We see it as part of our self-care journey and the best part is that you can do it at the same time, since the impact of it can reach you both on the same room, and combine it with other habits like reading or meditation.
READING SELF IMPROVMENT BOOKS
Reading is an overall amazing activity. One of our favorite quotes We’ve come across is “Reading is faster than listening” by famed investor Naval Ravikant. You can learn so much from reading but you can also stimulate your imagination, be creative and get lost in another person’s words.
We have also found that reading Self Improvement books is pretty amazing when you can start applying some of the things you learn and you start seeing the change in yourself and life.
Now, when you read some of this books at the same time as your partner, things turn even more exciting. You get to share thoughts and feeling towards what you’ve read and it opens a very interesting conversation between the two of you; it can trace a path for you to follow into your growth as a person and as a couple.
MEDITATION
Meditation is an activity where you are able to foccus on your thoughts while trying to keep away the distraction from the outside world.
Having not only a “clear mind,” but a focused one, is always important when we are on a growth journey since our mind and our thoughts are the only thing that we can control; not even our body sometimes. Having clarity in our mind and thoughts is absolutely necessary and beneficial because if we control what’s inside of our head, the things that come from the outside cannot shake us on our journey.
Meditation is the best tool to start achieving this clarity whether in a room by yourself, to even a crowded street plaza for those more experienced in the practice.
CONNECTING WITH NATURE
We have found that one of the most underrated things in a Self-care/Growth journey is connecting with nature.
Nature and humans are two things that go together, it’s in our DNA, our history and all around us.
Connecting with nature will make us grow in a spiritual, mental and physical way; you may have even experienced this already.
The feeling of the sun on our skin, the wind in our hair, or the sand on our toes. These little experiences can bring us feelings found nowhere else and it’s important to not only seek them out, but embrace them as daily habits.
The more we understand our connection with nature and how important it is in our daily lives the more we will find the need to connect with it.
Nature is all around us, even if you live in the biggest concrete city in the world. It can be as simple as sitting in the sun, listening to the sounds and people around us, or just getting outside of your apartment and office. Play with a pet, eat fresh food from a farm, drink water from a spring. All of these and so many more are ways to connect with the natural world around us; it doesn’t take a long trip away from your home.
We have found that one of our favorite activities to connect with nature is going on hikes. You may picture a nature trail on a mountain. While this is great, it’s not the only way to “hike” and get the benefits we’re talking about. Take a long walk outside in your big city or small town. You never know what you’ll see, hear, smell, or feel. It can be long or short but it’s always leads to something unexpected and is something that always makes us feel better, together.
EXERCISING TOGETHER
When you start a self care journey you must take care of the physical aspect. It’s not about having that “6 pack beach body” but just focusing on health. Can you walk around without pain? Can you sit up straight and breathe properly? Can you stretch your muscles and release the tension we keep within our body? When we talk about exercising, it can start with something like taking the stairs instead of the elevator or walking up that escalator instead of waiting to get to the top. We always hear retired Special Ops trainer Pat McNamara in my ear when I’m standing on an escalator: “It’s not a ride,” he says. Walk a few blocks instead of taking the train or cab, do some simple squats while waiting for food to heat up, or stretch while relaxing before bedtime. Simply moving, stretching, and focusing your energy to change some of your daily routines, will lead to so much–better strength in your muscles, better blood flow, better sleep, more energy, and better metabolism among many more benefits.
Doing these things starts with YOU. When you can share it with a partner who embraces this path with you, there can be a remarkable improvement, better communication and deep bonding in your relationship.
We share these tools with you because we believe in them and we do them ourselves and as a couple.
All of it is based in our research and experiences.
We hope to help you through your wellness path. Understand that some of the things we do might not work for you and your partner… and that’s okay. It’s about trying what works for you, taking pieces and seeing what “fits.” Eventually, you’ll be able to complete your own puzzle.
We are listing some of the resources we use to learn and to put into practice so you if you’d like you can also use them yourself.
